INDIGENOUS WELLBEING MEANS CARING ABOUT THE PLACES THAT SUSTAIN US

SFU Professor of Indigenous Business Dara Kelly is advancing the study of Indigenous business by looking at the foundations of Indigenous thinking around leadership and economics, which has historically received limited attention from academia. She currently leads research on the concept of Indigenous wellbeing and what it means to live a good life, based on Indigenous philosophies and gathering institutions that are thousands of years old.

ARE SMALL FARMS MORE PRODUCTIVE THAN LARGE FARMS?

Research from SFU Economics professor Fernando Aragón suggests that policies to foster small-scale agriculture in the Global South may be counterproductive. Facilitating land transactions and eliminating distortionary policies could help farmers thrive.

THIS FLU SEASON PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES

Flu vaccine clinics are coming to all SFU campuses and will be available by registration only. The vaccine is free for BC residents covered by MSP and registered SFU students.

 

SFU’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is launching a new interdisciplinary undergraduate minor program that offers students the opportunity to learn applied public policy skills and practical analysis.

Every year, SFU recognizes staff members for their outstanding contributions to the university or their community. If one of your colleagues is deserving of recognition, nominate them today. Deadline is October 30.

BURNABY CAMPUS MAINTENANCE NOTICES

ROBERT C. BROWN

On Saturday, Oct. 29 (7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) there will be electrical work in Robert C. Brown Hall. The replacement of electrical panels and breakers will improve power reliability in the building. Power outages will occur. Please make alternate arrangements and avoid the building during this time. Please contact Brent Heard at brent_heard@sfu.ca with any questions or for more information.

BLUSSON HALL

On Saturday, Oct. 29 (7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) necessary maintenance work on the ventilation system in Blusson Hall will occur. This will impact access to several labs, including CL3. Increase your educational technology skills every other Tuesday. These 30-minute sessions will cover topics such as how to use Turnitin, finding Creative Commons-licensed images online and creating better Zoom recordings.

 

November 2 | Hosted by Vice President Finance & Administration 

This event allows Grade 9 students to explore their parents' workplace and learn more about SFU. This year's activities include a campus tour, a science biology session and an intriguing presentation about environment archaeology.
