QUESTIONING SUSTAINABILITY OF B.C. LOGGING PRACTICES

Over a 50-year period, logging on B.C.’s central coast targeted the highest-value locations on the landscape. According to SFU Ph.D. graduate Jordan Benner and professor emeritus Ken Lertzman, depletion of high-value components of the environment raises concerns about future sustainability and intergenerational access to natural resources.

Professor Andréanne Doyon, director of SFU’s Resource and Environmental Planning Program, works with partners to support community-centred climate innovation. One of her current research projects is exploring how B.C. municipalities can use nature-based solutions to mitigate extreme heat.
