SFU AND AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY FURTHER COLLABORATIONS

A new agreement between the two institutions will help to address critical global issues, such as climate change and environmental sustainability while advancing joint research and faculty/student exchanges.

 

NATIONAL TRAILBLAZER AWARD RECIPIENT INSPIRES OTHERS TO FOLLOW

Elicia Maine, SFU’s associate vice-president of knowledge mobilization and innovation, was recognized with the Canadian Science Policy Centre Trailblazer Award for her exceptional contributions to Canadian research and innovation policy. 

 

MONITORING THE HEALTH OF MARINE ECOSYSTEMS AND SPECIES EXTINCTION RISK

SFU's Faculty of Science is part of an international team of researchers that developed a new science-based indicator to assess the state of health of the oceans—and the possible risk of extinction of their species. Nick Dulvy, distinguished professor and Canada Research Chair in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, also expresses concern about the decline of sharks and shares ways to handle this situation.

 

SFU REPS THE LEAF IN HISTORIC RUNNING WIN, SHOOTING HOOPS AND ON THE MAT

Cross Country - Charlie Dannatt made history on Saturday, becoming the first Red Leafs runner to win the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country West Region Championship race.

Basketball - The men’s team defeated Douglas College 83-46 Saturday evening at the West Gym. 

Wrestling - The women's wrestling team placed seventh at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri. The men's wrestling team finished fifth at the Younes Hospitality Open.

 

Thanks to this funding, SFU Beedie will lead a large-scale professional education initiative to prepare Canadian workers for the digital economy. Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster has announced an official partnership with SFU Beedie for the Digital Innovation and Leadership initiative, which aims to train more than 1,100 workers across Canada over the next two years.

NOMINATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED

The Warren Gill Award for Community Impact was named to honour the legacy of former SFU Vice-President Warren Gill, who helped build SFU’s definition of the university as an integral part of our community. If you know an SFU staff member who deserves recognition for their outstanding work, please submit a nomination by Dec. 9.

 

Members of the SFU community, including students, staff and faculty, who published in 2022 are invited to submit their works to SFU Library's annual Celebration of SFU Authors. Deadline to submit is Jan. 19.

SFU's Office of Community Engagement is pleased to offer up to $30,000 in funding to SFU students. Please encourage them to apply by Nov. 25.

AN INTERACTIVE PANEL WITH SFU INSTRUCTORS

Join Anne-Kristina Arnold (BPK) and Evan Tiffany (PHIL), reflecting on their experiences teaching third-year courses in a blended format. The panellists will share challenges, discuss practical considerations in the design of blended courses and provide tips and tricks for navigating the blended classroom.

Join the director of SFU Vancity Office of Community Engagement, Am Johal, to discuss what is possible in community engagement today amid climate emergencies, racial injustice, social and economic inequality and multiple crises.
