SFU IS READY TO ROVE THE MOON

For the first time in history, a Canadian rover will explore the moon and help in the international search for water ice, a key component needed for the future of human space exploration. SFU was named one of the mission’s partners earlier this month when the Canadian Space Agency announced that Canadensys Aerospace Corporation has been selected to build the lunar rover.

DEAN OF ENVIRONMENT HONOURED FOR SUPPORTING DECOLONIZING RESEARCH

Naomi Krogman, dean of SFU’s Faculty of Environment, has been gifted a paddle carved by Gitkinjuuas, an artist and Hereditary Chief of the Haida Nation. This is in recognition of the faculty’s support of the Coastal Voices project — a group of scientists and Indigenous knowledge holders decolonizing research to combat food insecurity for coastal First Nations.

BUSINESS RESILIENCY IN A TIME OF GLOBAL CRISIS

In order to thrive and survive, businesses need to become resilient in the face of increasingly frequent shocks from climate change, wars, pandemics and the attendant economic, social and political disruptions. SFU Beedie School of Business professor June Francis says businesses can improve their resiliency by drawing upon the diverse range of capitals found in the wider community.

With just two weeks of classes left in this term, this is one of the busiest times of the year at SFU.

Faculty members shared their tips and strategies for navigating end-of-semester demands and priorities in ways that support themselves and their students. Making lists, self-care and keeping priorities in focus are some ways that instructors are staying centred at the end of the semester.
