SFU LAUNCHES RENEWED SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

SFU’s 2022-2025 Strategic Sustainability and Climate Action Plan puts the university on the path towards net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. With six goals and 18 actions, the plan mobilizes the entire institution to embed climate action throughout our operations, research, academics, and community and global engagement. Continued work on sustainability came up as a recurring theme during the consultation for SFU: What's Next and will be included as a core value for the SFU community.

 

COLLABORATION PAVES THE PATH FOR BICYCLE INFRASTRUCTURE

Meghan Winters, SFU health science professor and the lead of Cities, Health & Active Transportation Lab teamed up with BC Cycling Coalition to make cycling safer and more accessible for everyone.

 

SFU NAMED ONE OF CANADA'S TOP EMPLOYERS

Tuition subsidies, generous maternity and paternity leave and four weeks of paid holidays for new employees are among the many reasons that SFU has again been named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers.

SEVERE WEATHER GUIDELINES

Did you know that SFU has guidelines for when severe weather impacts campus operations? These guidelines can support you with how to advise staff during severe weather events. As winter conditions are upon us, please make sure to review this resource.

 

Elizabeth Elle concludes her first term as vice-provost and associate vice-president, Learning and Teaching (AVPLT), on Jun. 30, 2023 and has agreed to stand for renewal in this role. As part of the renewal process and as per SFU Policy GP 29, feedback on Elle’s performance as AVPLT will be gathered. If you have performance feedback you'd like to provide to the renewal committee, please take a few moments to share your input by Dec. 21, 2022

The contest is open to students from all disciplines and offers cash prizes and a chance to be published in the contest journal. Please encourage undergraduate students to submit their papers, written in 2022, by Jan. 6, 2023.

The Warren Gill Award for Community Impact was named to honour the legacy of former SFU Vice-President Warren Gill, who helped define SFU as an integral part of community. If you know an SFU staff member who deserves recognition for their outstanding work, please submit a nomination by Dec. 9.

THE NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE & ACTION ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

December 6 | Hosted by Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the murder of 14 women at the l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. On Dec. 6, the SFU community is invited to attend an in-person memorial hosted by the SFU Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office and other campus partners to remember and honour the victims of this tragedy.

Help support the SFU Food Pantry this season by donating non-perishable foods. You can find donation bins at various locations on the Burnaby campus until Dec. 9.
