TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION WEEK

Sept. 26 – 30 marks Truth And Reconciliation week at SFU. Wear orange to honour those impacted by Canada’s residential school system.

Show your support by participating in initiatives happening at SFU and in your local community and deepen your understanding about this history to advance reconciliation.

In recognition of the Province’s approach last year to honour the importance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, SFU will be observing September 30 as a statutory day.

PHASE ONE RESULTS NOW AVAILABLE

Earlier this year, President Joy Johnson began asking “SFU: What’s Next?” as a way of considering what our changing world means for our role and priorities as a university.

Throughout phase one, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners took part in a community conversation on ThoughtExchange and shared ideas in a survey.

Reports analyzing the conversations are now available – read about the SFU community’s ideas for what’s next by exploring the findings.

VOLUNTEERS ENSURE SFU'S CONVOCATION IS A SUCCESS

Scattered among the sea of blue gowns and mortarboards, smiling faces and camera flashes, 200 volunteers – staff and retirees – are hard at work, making sure SFU’s twice-annual Convocation ceremonies run without a hitch.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

CONSENT MATTERS

This week, SFU’s Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office is leading their annual #ConsentMattersSFU campaign to highlight why consent matters and how it can be practised in everyday life settings. Faculty, staff and students are invited to share their ideas and complete the Consent Matters Padlet throughout the week.

SFU’s Living Lab program is working to better understand commuting patterns and sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation sources across all campuses to help meet 2025 Sustainability Plan targets.

If you commute to any SFU campus, complete this survey for a chance to win one of five $100 prizes. This survey is open to all SFU students, faculty and staff. The survey will close on October 3, 2022.

Awards worth $1,500 each are available to SFU faculty, graduate students and community partners recognizing outstanding community-engaged research that supports positive change. The deadline for nominations is October 3, 2022.

Are you interested in going back to school in an online, part-time basis that doesn't require a GMAT score? SFU Beedie's Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) is a competitive credential that offers the rigor of MBA-level courses with greater flexibility. For any questions about this program, reach out to Sophie Ji, Manager, Recruitment and Admissions, at sophie_ji@sfu.ca. or book an online advising session. Application deadline is November 15th, 2022.

COMMUNITY SAFETY FORUM POSTPONED
