TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY AMONG VANCOUVER'S HOMELESS PEOPLE AT ENDEMIC LEVELS

SFU and UBC researchers report an unprecedented high number of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) among homeless and precariously housed people. During one year of observation, 31 per cent of persons reported acquiring at least one TBI.

"The high rates of TBI captured highlight the need to prioritize prevention and outreach approaches to this population," says Tiffany O'Connor, the study's lead author and recent PhD graduate in SFU's Department of Psychology.

SNOWBIRDS FACE TURBULENCE FLYING SOUTH FOR THE WINTER

A new study from SFU health sciences and geography researchers examine how mainstream media reported travel by snowbirds—the hundreds of thousands of Canadian retirees who go south for the winter—faced numerous hurdles due to travel restrictions imposed during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Discover the key themes attributed to snowbirds as the pandemic advanced and why they see themselves as different kinds of vacationers.

SFU's leading business accelerator for science and technology companies, VentureLabs, has a lot of highlights to share. It includes accelerating 109 Canadian companies, providing more than 3,500 mentoring hours and celebrating their tenth anniversary.
