HONOURING EARTH DAY 2022

In honour of Earth Day on April 22, the Office of the Vice-President, Research and International has put together this special edition of the SFU Scholarly Impact series.

Check out this roundup of some of the SFU researchers who are making a positive impact for global sustainability every day.

Faculty of Health Science researchers are conducting one of the first studies of its kind to investigate levels of climate-related distress in Canada. 

“Many policymakers think of climate change as an issue for another day, but the reality is we're seeing real impacts from climate change right now,” says Kiffer Card.

 

CORBIN SALEKEN RECOGNIZED FOR BEHIND-THE-SCENES FILM SUPPORT

“As a filmmaker myself, I understand how important every project is,” says Saleken. “I do everything I can to ensure that everything is working properly."

One name has been thanked again and again in the closing credits of almost 1,000 SFU student films: Corbin Saleken, department resource specialist in the School for the Contemporary Arts. For his patience, enthusiasm and care, he has been awarded a 2021 Staff Achievement Award for student service. 

 

Simon’s Stories is a platform for tutors, education professionals, settlement workers, administrators, students and families to share their insights on education, diversity, academic practices, kindness as well as children’s well-being and development. The podcast is presented by the Faculty of Education's Friends of Simon Tutoring Program.

Interested in Indigenizing your courses but don’t know where to start? The Indigenous Curriculum Resources Centre (ICRC) can provide guidance and resources. The ICRC supports the work of Indigenizing and decolonizing curriculum at SFU and contains books, articles, audio-visual materials and post-secondary curriculum resources.

LEADER-AS-COACH: DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE CONVERSATIONS

April 27 & May 4 | Hosted by SFU Human Resources

This two-part series on essential mindset and core skills will support you in becoming more coach-like in your leadership approach.

Blending theory with demonstrations and practice, participants will learn the art of coach-like presence and skills in their day-to-day development and feedback conversations with their teams, direct reports and peers.

This is the first in a series of forums to discuss safety in Vancouver and will provide an opportunity to hear about recent safety-related experiences around the campus, outline available services through our community safety partners and explore ways to be safe when commuting to and from campus. All SFU faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
