NEW SFU-BASED CENTRE TO MAKE B.C. A GLOBAL “FRONTRUNNER” IN AGRITECH

A new B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation—to be housed at SFU's Surrey campus—will further position British Columbia as a world leader in agriculture technology (agritech). The province announced today that they are investing $6.5 million in grant funding over three years to support the centre.

 

REMEMBERING DJAVAD MOWAFAGHIAN

The SFU community deeply mourns the loss of Djavad Mowafaghian, who dedicated his efforts to improving the lives of children and communities around the world. At SFU, the support of the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation enabled large-scale research on diverse topics. Mowafaghian passed away recently at the age of 95. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion and will be dearly missed.

 

Quantum computing is at a pivotal point in its development and Physics professor Stephanie Simmons and her team are at the forefront of this research. We talk with Simmons about her work towards this “once in a generation” technological leap.

Hundreds gathered at the AQ courtyard yesterday to relax, connect and enjoy lunch at the annual president's appreciation BBQ. The event was also an opportunity for President Joy Johnson and senior leadership to thank employees for their hard work and contributions to the university.

SFU WELCOMES FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

SFU is pleased to announce the hiring of Samir Traoré, an anti-racism professional with management and program development experience. He will lead a team of dedicated professionals to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive community where all can feel welcome, safe, accepted and appreciated in their learning, teaching, research and work. He begins his role on August 24.
