AI AND 3D IMAGERY RESEARCH COMES TO LIFE IN CANADIAN AWARDS

SFU School of Computing Science continues to show why it’s a top-ranked Canadian university in computer graphics, as Manolis Savva (left) and Richard Zhang (right) have received prestigious awards from the Canadian Human-Computer Communications Society. LOST OR EXTINCT? STUDY FINDS THE EXISTENCE OF 562 ANIMAL SPECIES REMAINS UNCERTAIN

An international study co-authored by SFU biodiversity professor Arne Mooers provides the first global evaluation of all terrestrial vertebrate species that have not been declared extinct. It identifies more than 500 species considered to be ‘lost’—those that haven’t been seen by anyone in more than 50 years.

May is Asian Heritage Month: watch GSWS' four-part video series on Asia/Diaspora Research, featuring a roundtable discussion with GSWS faculty members Nadine Attewell, May Farrale, Helen Leung, and Vaibhav Saria.

Faculty of Health Sciences senior lecturer and director of undergraduate programs Kate Tairyan is teaching Master of Public Health students how to engage with the public. Three of her students – Christine Yanagawa, Carolina Guerra Alejos and Tania Sze Kit-ling – aced a recent assignment, landing in the pages of The New York Times, the Canadian Medical Association Journal and South China Morning Post.

Congratulations to SFU School for the Contemporary Arts' Jin-me Yoon who has won the 2022 Scotiabank Photography Award. Her award-winning entry earned a $50,000 cash prize, a solo primary exhibition during the 2023 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and a published book of her work distributed worldwide.
