CREATING AN ASSESSMENT MODEL TO IMPROVE URBAN PLANNING

At a time when cities are experiencing unprecedented challenges from growth, research conducted by SFU’s School of Resource and Environmental Management PhD candidate Christopher Correia uncovered 22 significant impacts. His analysis and creation of an assessment model is critically important for improved urban planning and decision making to enhance and achieve sustainability, as cities house more people than anywhere else in the world.

PRESERVING INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE LEARNING

SFU PhD student Jasḵwaan Bedard is leading her community and raising new generations of Xaad Kil language speakers at home and throughout North America. “Colonialism and its legacy have violently robbed us of our right and our ability to freely pass along our language, to speak it in a natural way and that has lasting impacts,” Bedard says.
