FIGHTING ONLINE CHILD EXPLOITATION WITH EFFECTIVE 'ATTACK' STRATEGIES

SFU criminology assistant professor and International Cybercrime Centre director Richard Frank co-founded a digital attack strategy to combat online exploitation called 'principal component analysis'. Learn how this strategy has proved to be more effective than strategies previously used.

 

SFSS WOMEN'S CENTRE INSPIRES SOCIAL AWARENESS, CAMPUS CONNECTION FOR ALL

Sam and Simmi, the staff behind the centre are empowering students to develop programs that meet their needs. From community connection to inclusive sex education to snacks, learn about the team and their work. They hope the space serves as a place to study in, to connect with, to laugh at, to cry at, to learn at and to create lifelong friendships.

 

HONOURING THREE OUTSTANDING GRADUATES

SFU School of Environmental Science recognized the work of Hannah Deppiesse, Elise Carelse and Zoey Schutz through the Alton Harestad Book Award. The award honours professor Alton Harestad, and celebrates the work of highly successful graduating students who reflect SFU's commitment to taking risks and embracing new opportunities. PURSUE GRADUATE EDUCATION IN BUSINESS

The SFU Beedie Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) provides you with a solid grounding in graduate-level business fundamentals while giving you the flexibility to study at your own pace. Tuition is 100 per cent waived for continuing employees. Spouses and dependents under 25 are also eligible for this benefit.

The GDBA application deadline is July 22. Please contact Sophie Ji if you have any questions or speak with an academic advisor.

 

SFU’s Mehran Ahmadi has been appointed acting school director, effective July 15. Ahmadi was one of the first faculty members recruited in 2019 to the school and he has been overseeing the undergraduate program since then. Kevin Oldknow is stepping into the role of senior advisor to the provost in the Office of the Vice-President, Academic and Provost while continuing his research and graduate student supervision as a faculty member.

Join a film screening of Re:Orientations (Richard Fung, 2016), Yellow Peril: Queer Destiny (2019) and a special premiere of bonus chapters - Yellow Peril: Queer Futures (2022). The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on intergenerational queer East Asian solidarity, community building, and the films’ adaptations in the context of COVID-19 related anti-Asian violence.
