GAME ON! SHRUM BOWL IS BACK

The ultimate football rivalry between SFU and UBC, the only two universities with teams in B.C., will return later this year. After a 12-year hiatus, Shrum Bowl will be played on our home turf at SFU's stadium this December and the BC Lions are the presenting sponsor. Stay tuned for ticket sales information.

 

SFU GEOGRAPHER SHAKES UP ECOSYSTEM MONITORING WITH INNOVATIVE REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGIES

SFU geographer Bing Lu received more than $160,000 to advance remote sensing technologies that investigate the loss of wetlands. Lu aims to assess how certain environmental disturbances impact ecosystem health and resilience using technologies like LiDAR, Radar and thermal imaging.

 

INNOVATIVE APP INTEGRATES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

SFU’s VentureLabs and collaborating partners are developing an app to help organizations establish strategic policies and practices that increase diversity and inclusion. This will create new pathways for people to work in digital jobs and acquire the necessary skills to do their jobs in workplaces of the future, which will require redefining jobs and skills, and changing how employers hire, train and retain skilled workers.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, you are invited to attend the annual, in-person staff/faculty event, which also includes live music at the Burnaby campus. Please RSVP by June 28.

In light of the increasing catalytic converter thefts from vehicles at SFU campuses and around the Lower Mainland, it’s a good reminder to report any suspicious activity on campus to our Campus Public Safety team at 778.782.7991.

INDIGENOUS MARKET AT SFU BURNABY CAMPUS

June 29 | Hosted by Indigenous Student Centre and First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Association

You're invited to attend this event and have an opportunity to browse or purchase the creations of local Indigenous artists, makers and entrepreneurs from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at Convocation Mall. The market will offer a wide variety of items including beaded jewelry, apparel, home care and wellness items.

 

INTERSECTIONALITY WITHIN LGBTQIA2S+ COMMUNITIES

June 30 | Hosted by Pride at Work Canada

This free virtual panel discussion will explore the reasons why taking an intersectional approach to advocacy and inclusion is integral to creating a sense of belonging for all, including but not limited to LGBTQIA2S+ employees and jobseekers.
