TRADE THE CHAIR FOR FRESH AIR

New research co-led by SFU health sciences professor Scott Lear finds that prolonged sitting may be hazardous to your health. An international study, which surveyed more than 100,000 individuals in 21 countries, found that people who sat for six-to-eight hours/day had an increased risk for heart disease and early death.

 

ZOOMING TO THE RESCUE DURING THE ONLINE TRANSITION

Desktop support analyst Mehdi Eftekhari has been awarded a 2021 Staff Achievement Award for his work performance during the start of the pandemic. He displayed immense patience, positive attitude and diligence when getting folks set up to work from home and when it was time to return to campus.

 

WHENCE YOU MICROBIOME?

Everyone has a unique gut microbiome made up of trillions of microbes that influence our health. But how do we acquire our personal gut microbiomes? Can we change them to become healthier? Postdoctoral fellow Eric Jones and physics professor David Sivak set out to answer these questions.

SUICIDE PREVENTION AND AWARENESS WORKSHOP

If you see someone in distress or at risk of suicide, do you know how to help? This online workshop is designed to provide participants with an introduction on how to recognize potential signs of distress and/or suicide risk, how to provide immediate support and how to make appropriate referrals.
