INCREASING REPRESENTATION IN THE GLOBAL EXTENDED-REALITY COMMUNITY

Centre for Digital Media is partnering with Ethọ́s Lab to represent more Black youth in extended reality-based digital futures. Ethọ́s Lab is an after-school innovation academy for grades 5-12 students to discover, explore and grow through culture-based experience as well as science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Currently in the first year of a five-year commitment, the partnership is on track to exceed their initial goal to train 300+ underrepresented youth and 190+ high school educators.

 

CELEBRATING REMARKABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO FRENCH IMMERSION IN CANADA

Isabelle Côté recently received the National Award for Excellence in French Immersion and was recognized by the Canadian Association of Immersion Professionals for her outstanding achievements. Côté is the associate director of SFU's Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs and co-chair of the Indigenous Education and Reconciliation Council.

 

RECOGNIZING EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

In honour of the dedication and exceptional work exhibited by its faculty and staff, FASS celebrated the winners of the Dean's Medal Awards, Cormack Teaching Awards and the Employee Achievement Awards at the annual Cormack Teaching Symposium and FASS Fall Reception.

 

Established in 2013, the Autism in Education Lab provides tailored support to autistic students through peer mentorship and to address challenges beyond academic accommodations. In collaboration with the Centre for Accessible Learning, the lab was co-founded by Elina Birmingham from the Faculty of Education and psychology professor Grace Iarocci.
