A tentative agreement has been reached and is subject to ratification and approval by both parties.

TSSU member employees are asked to contact their supervisor and return to work as soon as reasonably possible. Please consult with your supervisor regarding any preparation time that may be needed to resume your duties.

 

UNIVERSITY NEWS

PROTECTING POLAR BEARS

Researchers from SFU and Brigham Young University collaborated with Polar Bears International to test new technology that will more effectively locate polar bear dens across the Arctic. With increased industry activity in the region, there is a need for more accurate tools that can detect polar bear dens to avoid disturbing them during the critical denning time.

 

SHARING THE SFU EXPERIENCE AS A FAMILY

Last year, Malaya Barroso, daughter of SFU People, Equity and Inclusion staff member Dawn Barroso, visited the Burnaby campus for Take Our Kids to Work Day. Malaya shares her exciting day of discovering possibilities in both a university classroom and a workplace. At the same time, Dawn had the chance to connect her work community and her family.

 

The First Nations Business Development Association and the Beedie School of Business, Executive Education have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore ways to expand economic reconciliation between First Nations through an educational micro-credential program.

 
 

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

This award recognizes a community member who demonstrates significant positive impact in the social, economic, environmental and/or cultural fabric of the communities that SFU serves. Faculty, sessional lecturers, teaching staff and administrative and support staff are eligible. Nomination deadline is December 1.

Nominate faculty, students and external partners who make outstanding contributions to community-engaged research and drive positive change. Award recipients will receive $1,500 to amplify their research impact. Please submit nominations by October 31.

EXPERIENCES AND RESPONSES TO OPPRESSION AND MARGINALIZATION

October 26 | Hosted by School of Communication

The Spry Memorial Lecture has a long history of tackling key issues facing Canadian media and its role in the national conversation. This panel of outstanding interdisciplinary scholars explores how marginalized and oppressed groups are silenced and erased by dominant institutions, popular media and public discourse. They explore the emancipatory possibilities of political activists and social movements in diverse contexts.
