NEW SFU GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT FRAMEWORK TO ADVANCE THE UNITED NATION’S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

After a university-wide consultation, SFU International—with support from SFU Sustainability—launches a new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Framework for Global Engagement. Based on the 17 United Nation SDGs, the framework provides a shared language to help guide SFU’s global initiatives and aligns with the values of What’s Next: The SFU Strategy.

 

WOO SOO KIM NAMED NEW SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR OF B.C. CENTRE FOR AGRITECH INNOVATION

The seeds have been sown and the B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation is ready to reap the rewards under the guidance of its new scientific director, Woo Soo Kim. He is a professor and associate director of SFU's School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Kim is excited to help the SFU-led centre become a world leader in this field.  

 

Featuring community-engaged research, policy-targeted knowledge mobilization, and equity-serving knowledge translation, this year’s SFU Student-Community Engagement Competition winners are bravely building community partnerships across BC to tackle complex and challenging issues.

VOLUNTEER AND HELP TO CREATE A SAFER COMMUNITY

SFU’s Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office is inviting expressions of interest from students and faculty from the SFU and FIC communities with knowledge and experience in sexual violence prevention to join its Advisory Panel. The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 3, 2023.

Accreditation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) must be reaffirmed every seven years. With SFU in its seventh year of the current cycle, a group of administrators and peers from other NWCCU accredited institutions will be visiting SFU from April 3-5 to conduct a comprehensive site evaluation.

The team will conduct townhalls, which are an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to share their experiences working at or attending SFU. Consider attending one of the following open sessions.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS EXHIBIT: EX LIBRIS ROBIN BLASER

The “New American” Companions exhibit features a selection of books from the library of (or in Latin, ex libris) Robin Blaser (1925–2009), an award-winning Canadian-American poet and a faculty member for 20 years in SFU’s English Department. View selected items relating to Blaser’s own work as a “New American” poet in San Francisco in the 1950s and ’60s, plus that of three of his close contemporary associates and allies: the poets Jack Spicer, Robert Duncan and Charles Olson.

I'LL BE YOUR MIRROR

March 30-April 8 | Hosted by the School for the Contemporary Arts

I’ll be your mirror is an exhibition of SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts’ third-year Visual Arts students presented in collaboration with Kota Ezawa, the Spring 2023 Audain Visual Artist in Residence. Taking its title from the Velvet Underground’s 1967 song of the same name, the exhibition explores the generative and long-lasting relationship of art to mirrors through engaging with ideas of reflection, refraction, reenactment, repetition and more.
