NEW INNOVATION SPACE OPENS AT SFU SURREY'S CAMPUS

The SFU Innovation Plaza, a newly-renovated space, is now home to Quantum Algorithms Institute and the B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation.

The space will facilitate collaborations between academia, government and industry, accelerate innovation and benefit students preparing for sought-after careers in these burgeoning fields. 

 

SFU LIBRARY APPOINTS NEW ASSOCIATE DEAN

Ebony Magnus brings a leadership approach grounded in sustainability and reciprocity, a strong record of collaboration and an unflagging commitment to advancing equity. Ebony has been the head of Belzberg Library at the SFU Vancouver campus since 2019.

 

STEPHANIE SIMMONS TO LEAD CANADA'S NEW QUANTUM STRATEGY

SFU physicist Stephanie Simmons has been appointed as co-chair of this national advisory council. She will be working with top officials and experts across the country and abroad to strengthen Canadian research, talent and commercialization. 

 

COMMUNICATION PROFESSORS CREATE AUDIO ESSAY ON UKRAINE WAR

School of Communication professors Milena Droumeva and Svitlana Matviyenko have created Ukraine, Sonic Worlds Collide, an audio essay that uses a series of storytelling techniques and audio memories to tell a braided narrative of the war in Ukraine.

CELEBRATION OF FILIPINO HERITAGE AT SFU MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME

January 26 | Hosted by SFU Athletics

Gather with friends and cheer on our Filipino players Elliott Dimaculangan, David Penney and Hunter Cruz-Dumont at the men’s basketball game on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the West Gym. Not only will the game feature thrilling basketball action, but also a celebration of Filipino culture with music, games, food and performances. 

 

THE CRITICAL POWER OF THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES

January 27 | Hosted by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Join an evening of conversation with the 2022-23 Shadbolt Fellows in the Humanities panel members, moderated by SFU English professor and poet Clint Burnham. The event will be followed with a Q&A session and catered reception with these renowned writers, artists and scholars who are all publicly engaged in championing the arts and pushing disciplinary boundaries through the dynamics of agitation and resilience.
