INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2023

February 11th is recognized as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year’s theme was Innovate. Demonstrate. Elevate. Advance. Sustain. (I.D.E.A.S.): bringing everyone forward for sustainable and equitable development. In celebration of this day, Faculty of Environment researchers talk about working to advance these goals.

SFU has been responsible for many love stories, including Vicky (BSc ’96) and Mark (BSc ’95). They met while studying computing science in the early 1990s and forged a strong friendship the first few years of university. Before romance was ever in the air, they spent time together as part of the same friend group—spending many late nights all together in the computer lab.

Charlie Dannat became the third person ever in SFU's conference to run an indoor mile in less than four minutes. The Red Leafs Track and Field team put out a strong performance as they approach the conference championships.

"To address the issue of understaffing, ensuring that an adequate wage is available will help bring trained health care workers into long-term care facilities and home care," says Gloria Gutman, professor emeritus in SFU's Department of Gerontology. Gutman joined Michelle Eliot on CBC Radio's BC Today to discuss the proposed new national guidelines for care.
