NISGA'A TOTEM POLE REPATRIATED TO INDIGENOUS LEADERS

SFU education professor Amy Parent was among Indigenous leaders who traveled to Scotland in August to discuss the repatriation of a long-stolen memorial totem pole. This journey recently led to an agreement for its return home.

 

ANITA KAUR ATWAL PROVIDES INTERIM SUPPORT TO HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICE

Anita Kaur Atwal is an experienced labour, employment and human rights lawyer who joins SFU this week as Principal Consultant, Human Rights Office. Anita will ensure the office continues to administer the Human Rights Policy (GP 18) and Procedures while the search for a permanent Director is underway.

 

VPFA MAKES PROGRESS TOWARD MORE SUSTAINABLE OPERATIONS

Sustainability is a core value within the institutional strategic plan—in November 2022, SFU deepened our commitment to sustainability and climate action with the release of SFU’s 2022-2025 Strategic Sustainability and Climate Action Plan. 

This year, look for monthly spotlights highlighting each of the six goals within the plan. January's feature is Goal 5: Operations, which works to embed climate (mitigation and resilience) and sustainability into all operational decisions and projects and work to achieve milestones toward the United Nations-led Race To Zero campaign commitment.

 

MEET SFU'S FIRST RE-USE FOR GOOD AMBASSADOR

Fourth-year archaeology major Emma Chong is joining the Re-use For Good (RFG) program at SFU as our first RFG Ambassador, supporting sustainability and circular economy initiatives across our campuses.

 

At SFU, we remain committed to sustainability, climate action and a better future by taking concrete steps to address climate change. Our inaugural Carbon Footprint Factsheet details our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our investments.

SAAM 2023: FROM AWARENESS TO ACTION

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is a month-long series of engagements hosted by the Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office in collaboration with campus partners. This year, the theme of SAAM is From Awareness to Action. Visit the website to learn more about SAAM events and the actions we can take to prevent sexual violence and support survivors.

 

LEARN HOW TO DESIGN A BLENDED COURSE

This 10-week series is for instructors interested in redesigning a target course for blended delivery, starting in fall 2023 or later. Course participants will also receive exclusive access to blended learning experts and funding to present their work at conferences.
