FUNDING PROMOTES SOCIAL CONNECTEDNESS AMONGST OLDER ADULTS |
A group of SFU Gerontology researchers, led by associate professor Atiya Mahmood, are meeting with older adults living in multi-unit rental housing as well as staff/management of these facilities to study social isolation and how it affects mental health. The data collected will be used to find ways to reduce programmatic barriers, enhance a sense of community and social connectedness. |

Gender, sexuality and women's studies professor Jennifer Marchbank works closely with communities about social justice issues. Her recent book, an open-access collaboration with other SFU colleagues and researchers at British Columbia Institute of Technology and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, explores the complexities of violence in relationships and offers insights and tools to combat this crisis. |

It is with profound sadness that the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology (BPK) announces the passing of Donald Hedges.
From 1984 through 2015, Donald taught BPK 241: Sports Injuries at SFU every semester. In that time, he instructed over 4,500 students, each of whom he saw as unique and precious.
