PEOPLE OF SFU: MEET ANGIE LAMARSH

Alumnus Angie Lamarsh is the current chair of SFU's Board of Governors and Head of Sustainable Finance, Commercial Banking at HSBC Bank Canada.

Joining the board in 2018, Angie previously served on SFU's Alumni Association and Senate. She was also recently recognized as an exceptional business leader in Business in Vancouver's 2022 Forty under 40 Awards. In this Q&A, Angie shares why she loves being part of the SFU community and who inspires her as a leader.

 

As Canada’s first Fairtrade Gold Campus, SFU supports farmers and producers in many industries. On February 14, you can share the love for Fairtrade by purchasing roses at Convocation Mall and supporting better conditions for those who grow them.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY VOLCANOES ARE IN BC?

Please share your level of understanding of volcanic hazards in a survey created by a team of SFU earth sciences researchers. The results will offer important insights for designing future volcano risk-reduction policies and programs in Canada.

 

SFU's Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship is accepting applications to Coast Capital Venture Prize competition until Feb. 20.

The competition and associated activities welcome startup ideas and early-stage business ventures founded by SFU students, faculty, recent alumni and staff. Over the course of the three-month competition, teams compete for upwards of $75K in cash and in-kind prizes.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY

February 1 - 28

Join SFU Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry in launching Black History Month with an opening ceremony on Feb. 1. Featuring performances, prizes and an exhibition of select Black businesses in Vancouver, it’s the perfect way to start off the month-long celebration. Be sure to check SFU's Black History Month page throughout February for more events and activities honouring Black history, culture and contributions to the university and beyond.

 

MULTILINGUAL WEEK AT SFU

February 6 - 10 | Hosted by Centre for Educational Excellence

Multilingual Week is an annual celebration of SFU’s linguistic richness. Throughout the week, you can attend workshops and talks as well as visit booths to explore how we can leverage our community’s diverse language skills to create more inclusive spaces in the classroom and beyond.

SPIRIT DAY AT SFU

February 14 | Hosted by The Community Vibrancy Project

Take part in SFU's first ever Spirit Day and wear your best SFU gear or red clothing to show your love and pride for the university at all three campuses. Get together with your friends and colleagues for some s'mores, music and freebies, as well as participate in different contests and games at Convocation Mall from 12-3 p.m.
