TRANSITIONING THE REGISTRAR'S OFFICE TO THE NEW ERA

In an interview with EvoLLLution, SFU Registrar Tom Nault discusses the evolution of the registrar’s office over the past decade, the challenges that have developed and the best ways to tackle them.

SFU biology researchers are part of an international team that recently published startling study results in Nature Communications

“It was a bit surprising just how high the threat level is for these species,” says Samantha Sherman, a post-doctoral research fellow at SFU, and lead author of the study. “Many species that we thought of as common are declining at alarming rates and becoming more difficult to find in some places.”

 

DIVING IN TO STUDY RIVER SEDIMENT

SFU’s director of environmental science, Jeremy Venditti, is helping to predict the evolution of the Earth’s surface.

His research can assist scientists and planners better prepare for flooding, weather-related events as well as understand salmon activity.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE ENHANCES STUDENT EXPERIENCE WITH NEW SCI-SPACE

Located in the east side of the AQ at the Burnaby campus, this renovated area is designed to foster collaboration and community among science students to work on projects and interact with peers. Student groups can book meeting space, use a kitchen and utilize a variety of services including academic and career advising, tutoring and peer mentorship. 

 

KEEPING DEVICES OUT OF LANDFILLS

IT Services is collaborating with a local company, Quantum Lifecycle, to recycle and repurpose SFU's retired computers, cell phones, tables and servers. This partnership ensures data is properly erased and equipment is sold in the community while reducing environmental impact.

Hockey Canada has been embroiled in scandal and scrutiny for months over its history of grossly mishandling sexual assault allegations.

Join the last Sexual Assault Awareness Month event featuring Laura Robinson, a sports journalist and Courtney Szto, an assistant professor at Queen's University, as they discuss the scandal to address the damaging culture at the heart of hockey in Canada.
