HELP SURFACE THE UNIQUE VIBRANCY OF SFU'S THREE CAMPUSES

Indigenous names honour and recognize First Nations. They support the resurgence of Indigenous cultures and languages and play a vital part in reconciliation. Help inspire new campus names by completing a two-question survey about what is special about Burnaby, Surrey and Vancouver campuses. The survey is open to staff, faculty, students and alumni. Survey is open until June 1.

 

CLIMATE SCHOLAR TO LEAD COMMUNITY-CENTRED INNOVATION

Alison Shaw is a sustainability and climate change scholar and practitioner who will be leading climate innovation at SFU. She is passionate about helping diverse partners embed climate action into everything they do. As the inaugural executive director of community-centred climate innovation, she will help advance critical research and collaboration to address climate change. 

 

DRUG DISCOVERED BY SFU RESEARCHERS COULD SAVE LIVES

Scientists at SFU and the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research have found that a drug discovered at SFU and patented several years ago may have potential lifesaving results in the treatment of conditions leading to sudden cardiac death.

 

EMBRACING A FASCINATION WITH NATURE TO ADDRESS GLOBAL HEALTH CHALLENGES 

Amy Lee's research journey began at the age of five when her father showed her butterflies and spiders under the microscope. As a member of SFU's Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Amy shares her inspiration that led to her becoming a scientist, as well as the barriers faced by women scientists.

This day draws attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex people and all other people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions and sex characteristics. Discover how to access supports, toolkits and learn how to be an effective ally. 

 

FROM VANCOUVER TO RWANDA

In the latest podcast episode presented by SFU Vancity Office of Community Engagement, Lama Mugabo talks about local training and advocacy programs for people with lived experience of homelessness and other marginalizing barriers. He also discusses Hogan’s Alley Society’s advocacy in Vancouver’s historically Black neighbourhood and his capacity building and educational work in Rwanda.
