NEW STUDENT RESIDENCE OPENS AT BURNABY CAMPUS

The expansion of on-campus housing features breathtaking views, modern amenities, an exterior courtyard for recreation and study lounges in this two-building residence. The new residence building provides 369 student rooms and will serve as the new home for The Simon, SFU’s short-term accommodations for campus visitors.

 

A CARE REVOLUTION: INSIDE CANADA'S FIRST DEMENTIA VILLAGE

There is a village in Langley, B.C. where every resident has something in common: they're all living with dementia. In an interview with Global News, Habib Chaudhury, SFU Gerontology chair and professor, discussed how Canada’s first dementia village can help shape the future of dementia care. Developing and implementing innovative care strategies is needed as the dementia steadily rises. 

 

GARY SHUN'S PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS HELP KEEP RESEARCH RUNNING

Electronics technologist Gary Shum discovered his love of electronics in his teens, and now helps SFU researchers maintain the electronic equipment they rely on to do their work.

 

Brain resilience is the capacity of the brain to mitigate vulnerability to risk factors like a stroke. It is a central research interest of the Institute for Neuroscience and Neurotechnology (INN), an interdisciplinary research hub comprised of researchers across SFU. INN recently hosted a three-day workshop to discuss factors that contribute to brain resilience, from cells and circuits to culture and community.

NEW COMMITTEE GUIDES TRANSFORMATIVE DIGITAL CHANGES AT SFU

Improving the digital experience and delivering excellent services to support SFU students, faculty and staff are at the heart of what IT Services does. The IT Strategies Committee has been formed to ensure that digital strategies and initiatives align with SFU’s What’s Next strategy and that the greatest needs of our community members are prioritized. 

 

Faculty members, postdoctoral fellows and students engaged in climate action can now apply to join SFU’s COP 28 delegation. The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 28) summit will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 – December 12, 2023. Delegates will engage with the international climate negotiation process, drive climate-focused dialogue and action as well as build partnerships and relationships with people from around the world.

LEARN TO PLAY GOLF WITH THE WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM

June 2 | Hosted by SFU Athletics

Enjoy a free introduction to golf on Friday, June 2 from 4 to 5 p.m. on Terry Fox Field with pro golfer and SFU assistant coach, Kat Kennedy and the women’s golf team, in celebration of International Women’s Golf Day. Everyone is welcome and all equipment will be provided. No previous golf experience is required. Registration is free and includes a welcome gift, promotions to local golf facilities, prizes and a golf apparel sale.
