HELP SURFACE THE VIBRANCY OF SFU'S THREE CAMPUSES

A reminder to tell us what you think is special about each of SFU’s three campuses by completing a two-question survey. Your answer will help inspire new Indigenous campus names. The survey closes June 1 and is open to faculty, staff, students and alumni.    

 

PSYCHOLOGY PROFESSOR RECEIVES 2022 EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD

Yuthika Girme is a passionate teacher who has previously won teaching awards at the departmental and faculty levels, including the Barry Beyerstein Teaching Award (2018) and the Cormack Teaching Award (2021). Her diverse and inclusive teaching methods make her classes engaging and significantly contributed to her success.

 

SFU BECOMES GLOBAL INSTRUCTOR-TRAINING FACILITY

There is a growing need for training in automation systems in Canada and around the world. The Siemens Mechatronics System Certification Program recently offered its inaugural two-week training at SFU's Surrey campus. This certification training is vital for providing students with real-world technical skills and helping them to thrive in the high-tech sector.

SHARE YOUR CULTURAL HERITAGE

Held every year on May 21, this day celebrates the richness of the world's cultures and the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. SFU's Faculty of Education invites you to share your traditions, art, music, food, language and more; through short videos, photos or written pieces. Submissions will be reviewed and posted until Friday, May 26.

 

Last week, SFU and the Teaching Support Staff Union concluded scheduled bargaining. With many of the fundamental issues remaining unresolved, the parties were unable to reach agreement. SFU's bargaining team continues to look for solutions to resolve collective bargaining, avoid job action and reach a fair deal when TSSU is prepared to return to the bargaining table.

 

IT Services continues to explore ways to improve cellular coverage across our campuses. Did you know that if you have an SFU-paid mobile device, you have access to WiFi calling? This feature can help ensure you receive the best possible signal during phone calls or when exchanging text messages.

EXPLORE QUEER ASIAN IDENTITIES THROUGH ZINE-MAKING

May 27 | Hosted by SFU Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, SFU Institute for Transpacific Cultural Research, UBC Hong Kong Studies Initiative and Queer Reads Library

In this free workshop, artist-writer Rachel Lau will guide participants through the process of zine-making as a way to re-write queer Asian narratives and places. Attendees will create their own personal zines. No prior experience is necessary.

 

GO BY BIKE WEEK SPRING 2023

May 29 - June 4 | Hosted by SFU Parking & Sustainable Mobility

Riding your bike isn't reserved for days off. Shift gears to weekday rides as Go By Bike Week returns to Metro Vancouver. This year's event will have pop-up celebration stations at all three SFU campuses.

You will learn about guidelines for copying and distributing learning materials to your students. We will suggest sources of materials with fewer restrictions such as Open Access publications and materials without copyright protection as well as explain your rights as the creator of your teaching materials.
