Join President Joy Johnson and the executive team on January 31 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. to discuss the university's 2024 priorities. This meeting has been extended to allow additional time for more questions if needed. ANALYZING THE ORIGIN AND DISAPPEARANCE OF THE COAST SALISH WOOLLY DOG

Indigenous Studies researcher Chelsey Armstrong, along with recent alumnus Jonathan Hartt, played a role in a recently published Smithsonian study. Their findings shed light on the extinct dog breed that was once a fixture of Indigenous Coast Salish communities.

 

AWARD-WINNING ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES HISTORIAN APPOINTED AS VISITING SCHOLAR

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences welcomes Adrian De Leon as the new Jack and Nancy Farley Distinguished Visiting Scholar in History. De Leon is an expert in U.S./Philippines relations and Asian American political history. He has also written and hosted two PBS shows, one of which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award.

 

BOOSTING RESEARCH BY WRITING OP-EDS

Psychology professor Lara Aknin is featured in a Nature journal article alongside a select group of experts who demonstrate how researchers can benefit from communications with the general public.

SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS TO TACKLE SNOW

After a mild start to winter, cold weather has arrived. Behind the scenes, the winter operations team at Facilities Services has been diligently preparing for severe weather conditions, including improvements to combat snow-related challenges this year.

 

SFU's academic plan outlines the university we want to be today and into the future. After the launch of What's Next: The SFU Strategy, this is a final progress update of the university's current Academic Plan before work begins on the development of a new academic plan later this year.

OPPORTUNITIES CALLOUT

The competition is open to SFU faculty members. Interested candidates can apply by emailing avpr_search@sfu.ca with a CV and cover letter outlining suitability for the role.

Interested in policy making and the provincial parliamentary process? The Canadian Science Policy Centre invites Indigenous researchers and other eligible SFU faculty members/postdoctoral fellows to apply and participate in the inaugural Science Meets Parliament - BC program. Victoria event: April 22-23.
