ASSESSING POTENTIAL CARBON DIOXIDE STORAGE BENEATH METRO VANCOUVER STREETS

SFU Earth Sciences professor Shahin Dashtgard is looking at the viability of storing large volumes of carbon dioxide in a soda pop-like solution. The novel approach, which includes close to $1 million of national funding and support from Metro Vancouver, would be located thousands of metres below the city streets to help B.C. meet its net-zero emission goals.

CHAMPIONING INDIGENOUS PERSPECTIVES AT INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCES

In a major stride for Métis representation and Indigenous voices on the global stage, FASS student Evan Accettola brought his unique perspective as an Indigenous student to international discussions on sustainability and the environment. PROVIDING SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX PUBLIC POLICY PROBLEMS

In fall 2023, the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) launched a new speaker series focussing on Indigenous policy-making. Distinguished speakers included Federal Minister of Indigenous Services Patty Hajdu, B.C. Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Murray Rankin, and Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs President Grand Chief Stewart Phillip.

The CPPR will host its next speaker series in Spring 2024, with speakers from government officials and business sector members, and the theme is innovation, science and economic development policy. Hosted by CPPR's director Kennedy Stewart and conducted under the Chatham House Rule, these sessions provide an opportunity to dialogue with those at the centre of Canada's policy-making process. Please email cppr@sfu.ca to be added to the invitation list.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

The competition is open to SFU faculty members and it will run until January 20, 2024. Interested candidates can apply by emailing avpr_search@sfu.ca with a CV and cover letter outlining suitability for the role.

Did you know faculty and staff have access to the Business Glossary and Data Dictionary through SFU's Data Central website? This central repository can support your data management and reporting needs.

Due to increased activity at the start of the semester, commuters are advised to allow themselves more time to travel to campus.

Additionally, to increase the amount of parking available at the Burnaby campus, consider parking in East Lot, South Lot or Residence West Lot.
