On May 3, 2012, the Math Catcher team, Jessica Humchitt, Alejandro Erickson, and Veselin Jungic visited Okanagan Nation School, Okanagan Indian Band, Oliver, B.C. Our host was the school principal, Ms. Heather Kelliher.

Forty students, divided in two groups, participated in the Math Catcher activities. First we met with students from Grades 5 and 6. They enjoyed making tensegrities and putting together the tetrasix puzzle. We will never forget when a student greeted us in the school hallway with, “Pi, Pi!”

In the afternoon we met with students from Grades 2 and 3. For this group Alejandro prepared an activity that included making Mobius strips! Everybody was so busy following Alejandro’s instructions; cutting strips of paper and then taping the appropriate corners together.

Ms. Kelliher wrote the following about the Math Catcher visit: " Thank you for your workshop yesterday. It was a great opportunity for our students to expand their knowledge of math and the girls, especially, were fascinated by the presentation. They are all talking about pi and Laatya was proud of herself because she figured out that Pi Day was March 14. So good for kids to think outside the box!"
