Our major focus in the Harden lab is the regulation of epithelial morphogenesis during Drosophila development, with an emphasis on actin cytoskeletal regulation and apicobasal polarity. We are particularly interested in the roles of p21-activated kinase (Pak) and activated Cdc42-associated kinase (ACK), two effector kinases for the Rho family small GTPases. We are also working on synaptogenesis at the NMJ, a process involving many of the same proteins that regulate apicobasal polarity in epithelia.
