Function of Nucleic Acids
Biochemical, spectroscopic, and electrochemical methods are used to investigate the fundamental properties of DNA and RNA. Catalytic RNAs and DNAs are a major interest, as is the biology of newly discovered non-coding RNAs; DNA- and RNA- based biochemical switches and probes; biosensors for disease marker detection, and the use of DNA in electronic nano-circuitry.
Audas Lab
Understanding the role of noncoding RNA in the reversible formation of amyloid aggregates.
Sen Lab
My laboratory carries out research to discover new “fundamental” properties of DNA and RNA. The catalytic properties of these nucleic acids, and the role of unusual RNA and DNA structures in diseases as well as is normal cellular processes are of special interest.
Unrau Lab
The ability of RNA to recognize small substrates and promote difficult chemistry is poorly understood but is required to provide a solid foundation for the RNA world hypothesis.
