Computer labs
Instructional computing labs offer both Mac and PC computers with software and hardware that is continuously being upgraded to meet the needs of changing technology. Data projection and computer are included for instructors, providing an ideal setting for software training and marketing. On-site technical support is provided.
IBM Lab South - 1310
Located on the Main Concourse, IBM Lab South features 17 Dell Optiplex 755 microcomputers with:
- Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16Ghz processor
- 4GB RAM
- 80GB hard disk
- one 3.5" floppy drive
- one DVD+RW drive
- 19" colour LCD monitor
- built-in sound
- front panel USB and audio connections
- Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP3
- full internet access
- printer access*
* Users of the computer lab can print to an HP Laserjet 9050dn b&w and an HP Laserjet 5550dn colour printer located in room 1340. Printing requires the use of a laserprinting card which can be purchased from a vending machine in Room 1340.
One additional machine, which is reserved for the instructor, can be connected to a 9250+ Proxima Desktop Projector (1024x768).

Himie Koshevoy Publishing Lab - 2960
Located on the Upper Concourse, the Himie Koshevoy Publishing Lab features 17 iMac computers computers with:
- MAC OS X Ver 10.5.x
- 20" screen
- 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
- 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
- L2 Cache (per CPU) = 4 MB
- 250 GB hard disk space
- CD-RW/DVD±RW drive
- Ethernet access to the campus network and the Internet
- printer access*
One additional machine, which is reserved for the instructor, is connected to an XGA data projector (1024x768). Clients also have access to an Epson Perfection V500 Photo flatbed scanner, an external 1.44 MB floppy drive, and one 250 MB Zip drive.
* Users of the publishing lab can print to an HP LaserJet 8150 in the lab (Rooom 2960) and an HP Laserjet 5550dn color printer located in room 1340. Printing requires the use of a laserprinting card which can be purchased from a vending machine in Room 1340.
7th Floor PC Lab
The largest of our PC labs is located on the 7th floor and features 31 Dell Optiplex GX 755 microcomputers with:

- 4GB RAM
- 80GB hard disk
- one 3.5" floppy drive
- one DVD+RW drive
- 19" colour LCD monitor
- built-in sound

* Users can print to an HP LaserJet 5M b&w printer in the lab (Room 7050) and an HP 5550 colour Laser Printer in room 1340. Printing requires the use of a laserprinting card which can be purchased from a vending machine in Room 1340.
Hours of Operation
The labs are open Monday to Sunday between September and April. They may also be booked on Sundays between May and August by special arrangement for an additional charge.
Rates
Rates shown are per 8 hour session. A full day session is generally considered 8:00 am–4:20 pm or 4:30–10:30 pm. Half day booking of 4 hours or less are available on the computer labs only. Rates include technical support during regular operating hours. Technical support outside regular operating hours can be secured at an additional charge of $50 per hour.

Software
Computing Services has a number of software packages available for the labs.
PC (Windows-based): Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), FrameMaker, Microsoft Access, SPSS, Firefox, Internet Explorer, FTP client, Telnet client
Macintosh-based: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Full Adobe CS3 Suite (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Dreamweaver, etc.) Firefox, Internet Explorer, FTP client, Telnet client
Please note: Academic Computing Services will install instructor-provided software for a class if sufficient lead time (2 weeks) is allowed. Those providing software are responsible for having sufficient licenses for the number of students attending. Instructors are also requested to test their software in the lab well ahead of time to ensure that it performs as expected. We cannot be responsible for software brought in at the last minute and/or not tested in the lab.
