The School of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University, created in the Fall of 2003 consists of the Master's in Public Policy (MPP) graduate program and the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR). The Master's in Public Policy is a two-year innovative graduate program that emphasizes the development of techniques to undertake and manage public policy analysis and planning for public, private, and non-governmental organizations. The mandate of the program is to provide a professional graduate education that yields public policy analysts and managers who can scrutinize a problem, interpret and analyze relevant data, then evaluate alternative paths of action. We emphasize practical application of principles and analysis from the social science disciplines. Students will be expected to master a core set of skills in policy analysis, politics, economics, research and quantitative methods. Graduates will find employment in federal, provincial, and municipal governments, non-governmental organizations, crown corporations, and private-sector firms. The Centre for Public Policy Research brings together leading experts from SFU in labour markets, environment, social policy, trade policy, immigration, Canadian and international political economy, policy analysis, First Nations research, land use, communications, foreign policy, national and international security policy, and more. The Centre has a working paper series, holds seminars, sponsors conferences and symposia on a wide range of public policy topics.
