Dining Hall Printing
The new Dining Program being implemented starting this September at SFU Burnaby has as one of its objectives to create a social space for students to encourage interactions and building of friendships. The Dining Hall facility is being revitalized to encourage these interactions by providing students with socially-rich and comfortable space, one that is open 24 hours a day. In this regard we will be adding soft seating, high top tables, more power outlets, group study areas with monitors, flat screen tv's and free printing and scanning.
With respect to printing, students who are on the Meal Plan will be able to print up to 20 B&W impressions per day at no charge to them. They will also be able to scan to e-mail at any time. "Copying" will be accomplished by scanning and then printing.
To make use of this service to print requires two steps, the installation of some simple software and then forming a connection to the printer.
Software
To ensure that everyone on the Meal Plan will have access to the device and that no one or two people will monopolize the device, printing will be limited, and software known as Papercut will be used to see that this happens.
Every night, those eligible will be given four dollars of Papercut "funny-money" in their Dining Hall Papercut account. Note that this funny-money can only be used to print on the printer in the Dining Hall; it's not useful on any other printer on campus. Papercut will then debit that account twenty cents for every piece of paper that comes out of the printer, whether single sided or double-sided.
(Hint: print double-sided, it's better for the environment and better for you as well.)
Once out of "money" for that day, you will be denied printing. Note that the "money" is not cumulative; twenty pages a day.
To make this magic happen, some software must be installed on your computer; the Papercut accounting software and the driver for the printer.
Note: You will only be able to print when connected to the SFU network, either wired or wirelessly. You will not be able to print when using the network in the Residence. Similarly, you will only be able to access the Papercut server when connected to an SFU network.
Macintosh Setup
Setting up a Mac to use Papercut involves the installation of a printer driver and the Papercut software itself. For your convenience, ITServices has bundled this into a single installer.
Note: Users with Mac OS X 10.8 (aka Mountain Lion) should perform these steps first before continuing with the setup instructions below

And that's it.
