The BC Lung Association’s 11th Annual Stairclimb for Clean Air!

The BC Lung Association’s 11th Annual Stairclimb for Clean Air!
By: Chris Gal-lang
It’s pretty easy to take for granted something that circulates within us, that’s always around us, the air that we breathe. The fact of the matter is, there are six million Canadians who are constantly affected by lung disease and who fight each day for every single breath. For these six million Canadians, this is a reality.
But like any moment in life, reality can change. And change is a progression in steps.
This Sunday, February 26th, 2012, at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel, marks BC Lung Association’s 11th Annual Stairclimb for Clean Air! Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to challenge yourself to a great workout, fundraise for lung disease research and clean air initiatives, or volunteer for one of the most uniquely interesting events in the city of Vancouver.
Simon Fraser University’s own, Jessica Collins, a Special Events Assistant at the BC Lung Association, shares why she thinks students should be excited about joining the Stairclimb event team:
“SFU students should get involved because it gives them the opportunity to get some hands-on experience working with the BC Lung Association, and a chance to learn more about what it takes to run an event like [Stairclimb]. Also, having the experience of volunteering for a non-profit organization is always an asset to have on your resume! For students who are interested in fitness and fundraising, this is a great event to make some new connections and improve your resume.”
If you’d like to volunteer, email Marissa at mcfadyen@bc.lung.ca or call 604-731-5864 and ask whether joining the Stairclimb event team is right for you!
If you’re looking to climb, get online and register before February 24th. In order to be eligible for participation, each climber must raise at least $125 by February 26th. Once you register, you’ll be given a personal fundraising webpage and all the information you need to get started. If you’d like to continue raising money, the fundraising campaign will remain open until March 23rd, 2012. For more information, take a look at BC Lung Association’s 739 Steps Blog, and also check out Jessica’s fantastic ideas for getting yourself in shape for Stairclimb 2012!
Step up and take flight. Fight for what is in all of us, all around us, the air that we breathe.
