Be A Mentor To International Students

Be A Mentor To International Students
By: Cadence Sun
As an international student, are you having problems meeting new friends and connecting with the SFU community? Here is a wonderful opportunity especially for you, the Mentorship Program from the International Student Office. This program was created to help international students adjust to their new surroundings. Mentors meet with new students and provide them with information, get them to engage in community events, and help with personal and academic issues. Every semester, the ISO recruits approximately 25 volunteer mentors to perform as role models for incoming foreign students.
There are four big advantages that come with applying to be a mentor:
- You will gain skills in areas such as cross-cultural communication and time management
- You will feel happier having shared your knowledge, skills, and time with the university community
- You are provided with an opportunity to meet like-minded volunteers and make new friends
- You can gain a valuable volunteer reference upon successful completion of the program
So APPLY for next semester’s intake after check to make sure you meet the basic requirements:
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- At least one academic year of full-time studies completed
- Good communication skills
Application starts at the send of 2014 spring semester. If you are interested in mentorship program, visit the below website for more information:

Good luck!
