Once again, the fall semester is flying by and we seem to find ourselves in November already with snow around the corner.

This month marks the 17th annual United Way Book and Bake Sale. United Way is a long standing organization that works to tackle key social issues in our world. The three priorities that United Way focuses on are investing in young and at risk children, helping youth make the right choices and helping seniors keep their independence intact.

The annual book sale is an opportunity to clear your bursting shelves and lose extra weight during trips to the library (provided you’re all finished with your books). Donated books will be sold and all the money will then go towards United Way. Books, CD’s, DVD’s and video tapes are all welcome, but no magazines or encyclopedias.

Book donations will be accepted in the drop boxes located on the main level of WAC Bennet Library or through Library Receiving for larger donations starting in early October. The book sale will then be taking place November 15 -17 at the AQ North Concourse. A few days later on November 23 it will be followed by the bake sale in the same place from 8:30 a.m. until noon (or until sold out).

No class in Burnaby? No problem! The Vancouver campus is also holding its own event on November 23 and librarians at Belzberg library will be happy to accept donations during operating hours.

Through its many fundraising events SFU in 2010 raised $160,000, so do your part this year to help top that number for United Way!
