CEVF 2013 Recap - Part 3

The 2013 Community Engagement and Volunteer Fair was one third of The BIG Fair, which also included Career and Professional School components. This year, the annual event was held over a period of three days, with one at the Surrey campus and two at the Burnaby campus. It included approximately fifty volunteer organizations which came out to recruit student volunteers and spread the message of their cause.

What qualifications do you look for in potential volunteers?
It depends on the different non-profit organizations because Volunteer Burnaby is a platform for potential volunteers to seek volunteer works; and most organizations offer trainings to prepare volunteers for their jobs.
How long would a volunteer commitment be with your organization?
Mostly long-term volunteer commitments, which mean 3 month or more.
What advice would you give to a student who is looking to volunteer?
Open your mind to various volunteer opportunities

What qualifications do you look for in potential volunteers?
Volunteers who are interested in knowing about Rec SFU, having fun, and meeting new people
How long would a volunteer commitment be with your organization?
It depends on department, and mostly Rec SFU recruits every semester with various openings.
What advice would you give to a student who is looking to volunteer?
Try things interesting to you and things you like

What qualifications do you look for in potential volunteers?
Volunteers are required to have certain literacy and fluent English in reading and writing
How long would a volunteer commitment be with your organization?
6 months or more and volunteers are encouraged to stay with their students to foster their learning
What advice would you give to a student who is looking to volunteer?
Do something you enjoy a lot; everyone at Frontier College enjoys reading.

What qualifications do you look for in potential volunteers?
All people are welcomed, but certain fluency in English is required
How long would a volunteer commitment be with your organization?
2 to 3 hours commitment every week, and schedule is flexible
What advice would you give to a student who is looking to volunteer?
Do things that you enjoy!
