They say the pen is mightier than the sword, and it is time to prove it!

December 10 is Human Rights Day and across the world thousands are putting their pens to paper for Write for Rights 2011, the global event where you get to advocate for the rights of individuals to education, to live without violence and with dignity.

Write for Rights is an annual event hosted by Amnesty International, an non-governmental organization that brings together people into a movement to end grave abuses of human rights and demand justice against power abuse.

Not convinced yet?

Amnesty International began with one letter, a call to action to free two Portuguese students imprisoned for raising a toast to freedom in 1961. Since then, the movement has grown to 3 million members in over 150 countries and celebrating its 50th anniversary of letter-writing, .

Interested? In three easy steps you can become an advocate for Justice and Human Rights:

  1. Sign up to write letters or host a letter writing event, and request a letter writing kit.
  2. Review the letter-writing cases you can choose from. More will be uploaded as Human Rights Day gets closer.
  3. Write! Voice your concern over the case you chose to write about. Check the rules and tips pages to make your letter writing experience a productive one!

Don’t be discouraged! The real power of advocacy is that together we can create pressure for real action. Keep sending those letters and on December 10th check back to Write for Rights and watch the letter counter rise!

What will it take to spark your flame? Be part of the movement!
