Do you like animals?
Are you looking for a place to volunteer to help animals?
Are you looking for meaningful experience in not only gaining skills but helping the environment?

If you answer is Yes to the above questions please keep reading because the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is for you!

Let me share a bit of my experience volunteering there. I applied to the Wildlife Rescue as an Animal Care volunteer because I have always wanted to be a Veterinarian and ever since I was 8 or 9, I heard about this place and thought it would be a great place to start volunteering. This was the first place I got to volunteer with animals.

During my time there I got to meet new people, participate in event such as the Animal Expo, Earthfest etc. I got to speak to the public about what the Wildlife Rescue Association did and provided information on how the public could help either by volunteering or donating. At the Wildlife Rescue Association center in Burnaby I had to clean the cages, give fresh food/water, wash dishes, use the washing machine, and assist the staff in various duties.

As I accumulated hours I got to help the staff more. The way the Volunteering positions work is we get assigned levels. As we accumulate more hours and learn more about the disease and identifying them based on looking at fecal matter and become more comfortable around the centre we got tested on what we learned and eventually progressed to the next level. Each level wears specific colors and it is displayed on your name tag.

There are more positions such as:

  • Admin/Office Volunteering
  • Animal Care Volunteering
  • Garden Volunteering
  • Community Fundraisers
  • Education Event Planners
  • Fundraising Event Planners
  • Outreach Education Volunteering
  • Transport Volunteering
  • Wildlife Helpline Volunteering
