The 15th Annual Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K is taking place next month on June 23rd, 2013. The Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K runs from UBC to Stanley Park with over 6500 runners participating. Last year, the Vancouver Half-Marathon raised over $700,000 for sixty-five local charities, and this year the event’s size requires about 800 to 1000 volunteers to help the marathon run smoothly. If you have been wondering what to do during the summer break, volunteering for the marathon could be a great idea!

There are several volunteer positions that still need to be filled, including the UBC Area Crew (where you can organize the start area at UBC, set up signage and provide information to runners), the Start Line Crew (setting up, tearing down and cleaning up the start line at UBC), the Shuttle Bus Marshal (directing runners to board the appropriate shuttle bus after the run), and more. You can get more information about the positions here or just go ahead and sign up now on this page. You and your friends can volunteer as a group, however you would have to email volunteer@canadarunningseries.com first; the email address is also available for any other inquiries regarding volunteering for the marathon. If you’re still not convinced, keep in mind that this opportunity is also great for those of you who do not have time to spend more than one day to volunteer. Go ahead and read this blog post by our fellow ENGAGE blog writer, Kerri, who wrote about the benefits of one-day volunteer opportunites.
