Why not volunteer as a writer?

Why not volunteer as a writer?
By: Rui Wang
Do you want to work in social media? Do you want to gain experience interviewing people? Do you want to take part in big cultural events in Vancouver? Being a volunteer writer with the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society will meet all your demands in this summer.
As a volunteer writer with the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, I got a very good chance to interview Vincent who is a dragon boat maker in Vancouver and I heard lots of interesting stories about making Chinese dragon boats from him. For example, I learned that dragon boats in Vancouver are a little bit bigger than those in China because Western people are bigger than Asian people and dragons boats in Vancouver are made bigger in order to fit Western people. I was so impressed by Vincent’s passion for making dragon boats. The reason Vincent began to make dragon boats by himself is because Vincent wanted to have more opportunities to practice before the dragon boat race was held in Hong Kong. But there were only 6 dragon boats in one of the Chinese cultural organizations in Vancouver so it was hard for him to borrow boats for practicing. As a result, he decided to make dragon boats by himself. Vincent had no experience making dragon boats so he learned how to make a dragon boat by himself. Actually making dragon boats is not an easy job. He says it takes the same amount of time to make the “head” of the boat as the main body of the boat.
I really enjoy being a volunteer writer with the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society and engaging myself with this big cultural event because I gain experience interviewing and writing, which are very helpful for me to build up my resume and prepare myself for my future applications for positions working in social media.
