The Summer Internship of a Lifetime: Meet Christina Guan

The Summer Internship of a Lifetime: Meet Christina Guan
By: Natalie Pope
What’s your dream job?
Like many students, Christina Guan has some big dreams. But her dreams actually became a reality this summer. Find out how this SFU student was able to utilize her skillset and land an internship of a lifetime.
About Christina:
Christina is a fourth year Communications and Business student. This rock-star communicator has been hyper-involved at SFU from volunteering her communication skills for fundraising events like SFU Dance Marathon, writing for the SFU Engage Blog, and doing marketing-communications for SFU Residence and Simon Fraser Student Society. She has worked on some creative projects and videos, including one that involves Power Rangers. Yes, you read that right.
Another one of her passions, besides communications and social media is travelling. She put her passions together on her personal social media channels where she stunningly document her journeys. Her personal blog, Hello Guanster, has travel story gems like “Lessons Learned from Getting Pickpocketed in Rome”, and her Instagram and Youtube channel show off the beauty of the places she has been to. Needless to say, all things social media, creativity, and travel are right up her alley.
CroisiEurope:
Imagine, her excitement when she found out about a Photo Reporter internship for CroisiEurope, a cruise company was looking to pay someone to eat delicious food, travel 14 countries in Europe and Southeast Asia, and of course share this out on social media. Of course, she took to social media and shared her phenomenal skills with the world and made quite the impression with her “Hire Me, CroisiEurope” video:
Guess what? Thanks to talent and hard work, Christina got the job and she shared her excitement in her first CroisiEurope Blog post, “I’ve been flexing my creative muscles ever since I was a kid. Luckily, I’ve since traded in my crayons for Instagram filters, and have gotten a lot better at telling stories. Whether it’s meticulously editing every photo or spending hours crafting the perfect blog post, I promise I’ll do my best to bring my experiences to life and make you feel like you’re right there next to me.”
Christina was even featured in the Burnaby Newsleader, where she shares why exactly this position is the right fit for her, “"I love to travel, I love to write, I love to take photos and I love social media. I love sharing all my experiences online. That's 100 per cent what I'm going to be doing."
It’s not too late to catch up on Christina’s Journey across Europe- she posts every day! Be sure to take a look at the European landscape eye-candy she shares and follow her exciting story:
What tips does Christina have about landing a dream job?
"The best advice I can give for landing your dream job is to always go for it and to try your hardest, even when it seems impossible and out of reach. Never in a million years did I think I would actually land this opportunity, but I took the leap of faith and applied anyway! Never underestimate yourself - anything is possible!"
