Volunteering for Special Olympics: An Interview with Al-Rahim Habib

Special Olympics Canada is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through positive sports. Al-Rahim Habib, an SFU student is finishing his B.Sc. in Health Sciences this semester, is currently volunteering for Special Olympics BC, a chapter of Special Olympics Canada.  His goal is to one day become a medical doctor.

Shark Truth: On a Mission to Stop the Soup

At this year’s Volunteer & Civic Engagement Fair, I had the chance to meet some of the folks from Shark Truth. In case you didn’t know yet, Shark Truth is a not-for-profit consumer awareness group that seeks to engage consumers in a collaborative discussion to find alternatives to shark fin soup. The organization is founded by Claudia Li, an SFU Business alumnus, and has already received some media coverage, including one recently from the Vancouver Sun.

She has had international experience with an exchange at the Chinese University in Hong Kong.She participated in Co-op through the SFU EDGE program in Scotland. And yet, it was a photo entered in the Community Engagement category that stood out.
