Event Recap: SFU Indigenous Day

Event Recap: SFU Indigenous Day
By: admin
The original event recap can be viewed here.
On September 24, 2015, Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) First Nations Student Association (FNSA) hosted its 2nd Annual SFU Indigenous Day in Convocation Mall at the SFU Burnaby campus. Hundreds of people attended the celebration to learn about diverse indigenous cultures and share their knowledge.
Participating federal government departments and agencies appreciated being invited to the event. The warm welcome and hospitality shown by the organizers and everyone involved was amazing. (A special thank you to Laura Forsythe and the FNSA!)
Performers, artists and educators shared their uplifting stories through music, dance and song. Another highlight was the bannock tacos, which were delicious.
Troughout the day, federal public service representatives connected with more than 200 students, graduates, parents and educators and engaged in one-on-one conversations about the variety of careers available in the public service.
Information was shared on:
- How to apply for jobs on the main Government of Canada website jobs.gc.ca;
- The Federal Student Work Experience Program; and
- The job advertisement for Careers for Aboriginal Persons.
It was also a welcome opportunity to connect with SFU personnel, like Trina Setah, SFU Aboriginal Co-operative Education Coordinator, and collaborate on promoting work experience opportunities for students.
The federal public service looks forward to partnering again with the FNSA at SFU!
Government of Canada partners present at the event include:
