Readiness to Work Internationally
International work placements offer an entirely new layer of challenges. While your school or employer can assist you in ensuring you have all the necessary visas, work permits or other paper work in order, you will still need to do some research on your own.
In addition, employers want to ensure that you’re prepared to be away from home for an extended period and are able to adapt to a new environment.
- · Do you have a realistic understanding of international living and working conditions?
- · Are there any limiting factors such as health, family or other circumstances which would make it difficult for you to be away from home for an extended period of time?
- · What challenges do you think you could encounter when working in another country? How would you manage these challenges?
- · What research have you done to prepare for working internationally?
- · Will you fulfill the terms of your contract and demonstrate loyalty to the organization in the face of frustrations?
