Fresh berries, delicious jams and honeys, and a variety of vegetables; it’s that time of year again when farmers markets start cropping up all around the city.  Changing your diet to favour seasonal and local grown foods helps the environment and supports local vendors.  In the city of Vancouver there are four main farmers markets running throughout the summer months: Trout Lake, the West End, Kitsilano, and Main Street Station.

The vendors of the markets vary between farmers, prepared food venders, craft venders, and service providers.  There are often also various types of live entertainment at each of the different locations.  Further contributing to their green friendly reputation, each market has easy to follow bike directions and a few even have valet bike parking while your browse and shop.

Each market operates on a different day and on different hours, so it’s best to check beforehand when to find your favourite local grown strawberries.  Throughout the summer the farmers markets also host a variety of special events including a garden festival, bike festival, and tomato festival.  The farmers markets are also always looking for volunteers with a wide array of positions.  So jump on your bike, enjoy valet parking, and support local vendors and fresh summer foods!
