During  Week of Welcome Back events, I’ve learned a little bit about becoming an Orientation Leader. The students I’ve talked to mentioned how becoming an Orientation Leader has opened up employment opportunities for them and how this position has helped them meet new friends on campus. Because this opportunity sounds exciting, I’ve looked up more information about it.

As an Orientation Leader, you can volunteer to work with new students through the Discover SFU New Student Orientation. Your main responsibility is to provide mentorship to a group of 15-20 new students throughout the first term, including showing them around campus during the Orientation day. Some of the specific duties include delivering team building activities, giving tours, coordinating events and answering questions about SFU. This volunteer position is the perfect opportunity for approachable and enthusiastic students! Even if you are an introvert, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn to socialize and meet new people. As well, you’ll be able to introduce the SFU campus and its unique environment, so you’ll also have the chance to make a lasting impact on the university life of new students.

If this sounds like an opportunity you’d like to get involved with, go the Orientation Team website and fill out an application form. You have up to February 20, 2010 to apply.
