What are your plans for the summer SFU? Taking summer school or flying home for the summer?  You’re doing neither? Well, why not apply for a summer work program, offered by the Federal Government of Canada. The Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP), provides full-time students with valuable work experience related to their field of study. If you have always wanted to gain relevant work experience that can be transferrable to future jobs, this is the place to start.

In addition to working for the government in a variety of challenging and fulfilling positions, students are also paid a competitive wage. Not only do you get paid for your work and enrich your academic experience, you also get an opportunity to potentially be bridged into a full-time position with the government after you graduate. Some of the positions include:

There is another opportunity that not only gives you employment, but allows you to travel and work abroad! The Summer Working Abroad Program (SWAP), a not-for-profit organization owned by the Canadian Federation of Students that assists Canadian citizens (you do not even need to be a student) in applying for visas, finding accommodation and employment in over thirty participating destinations. The opportunities are endless as not only do you get to learn and develop professional and personal life skills, you get to meet new people from all over the world, who are doing the same thing that you are.

Summer is just around the corner, so what are you waiting for? You better start planning now, so check out their websites and application processes here:
