"Find yourself in losing yourself in the service of others."

Mohandas K. Gandhi spoke no truer words than this. Especially for students who are trying to balance a school work load while finding their passion and contribute (as it has been said, “Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance”), it is easy to get caught up in the minutiae of details and lose our way in the mire of expectation. Everyone is looking for that sense of balance, to "work hard, play hard." We live in a life of duality and to even the scales we must find something to counter-weight. That is where most turn to volunteering.

There are a few people I know that are well off enough to not have to work again, but they do because boredom is the killer of spirit. These same people have sought and found causes close to their heart in order to remain active. One person I know is seeking to be on the board of the Delta police to add insight and ensure positive change and impact will happen in their neighbourhood. Another is joining their strata to, again, make positive impact. Work hard, play hard; but if you are in a position that your life is out of balance and seek that counter weight, volunteer at a place close to your heart and you will find yourself by losing yourself in the service of others.
